John M. Bastubee, 88, of Millbury, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Oak Harbor, Ohio on June 11, 1916, to Frank and Eva (Whitehead) Bastubee. John had worked at American Brake and Shoe, most recently the owner of B&J Auto Service for 50 years, where he and his children maintained daily operation. He loved working and enjoyed fishing. He was known to many as Honest John. Surviving are his children, John F. "Butch" (Judy L.) Bastubee, Sharon (Terry) Chessher; grandchildren, Debbie (Jim Zunk), Matthew (Nikki) Bastubee, Julie Beth (Eric) Headley, Michael Flannagan, Terri Ann Chessher; step grandchildren, Jennifer Hartman, Julie Ruiz, Jodie Rapparlie, John Rapparlie, Tonya Chessher; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Elizabeth, Ricky, Jessica, Jayla, Kristofer, Joey, Jessica, Erick, Tiffany. John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea M. Bastubee, his parents and 12 siblings. Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Woodville Road Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury on Friday from 2-9 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
