John Baumgartner, 79, of Rossford, Ohio, entered eternal rest on December 25, 2023 surrounded by family.

John was a proud graduate of Clay High School, class of 1963. He participated in many sports and activities while in attendance. Nicknamed "Bummy" by his classmates and "Eggie" by his brothers, he quarterbacked the football team to many victories and was named Honorable Mention All G.L.L. his senior year.

John was passionate about his sports teams, The Toledo Rockets and The Ohio State Buckeyes but always had a special place in his heart for his alma mater, Kent State Golden Flashes. His most favorite athletes he loved above all were his grandkids. He beamed just talking about each one and their talents.

John never met a stranger. He was quite a social coordinator, always planning get togethers with his classmates and family. Their best stories and memories were always revisited and fondly laughed over. His spirit and zeal for life will be missed by many.

Survivors include his daughters Lora (Shawn) Eichel of Columbus, Ohio; Sara (Mike) McHugh of Safety Harbor, Florida; Beth Crosby of Bixby Oklahoma; Lynn (Brett) Brown of Houston, Texas; brothers Gerald (Patricia) Baumgartner and Richard (Barbara) Baumgartner II of Rossford, Ohio; grandchildren Evan, Ellie, Eric and Elizabeth Eichel; Colin, Madelyne and Maren McHugh; David Barton, John and Jody Crosby; Hudson, Brooklyn and Avery Brown. Family waiting in heaven include parents Richard and Geraldine Baumgartner and wife Elizabeth (Ball) Baumgartner.

Friends and family will be received at Redemption Church, 8605 Salisbury Rd, Monclova, OH 43542, on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville. The family wish that any contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Southern Care Hospice or Redemption Church. Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
