John Robert Friend, 95 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Genacross at Toledo. John was born in Lansing, Michigan on May 13, 1923 to Alfred T. & Lillian (Chappuies) Friend. On July 3, 1943 he married Jean Schwarz who preceeded him in death in 2011. John a graduate of Waite High School and University of Toledo in 1959, was the owner and operator of Data Prep Inc; a data processing company. He was a WWII Veteran, served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp Reserves, trained as a torpedo bomber pilot. John was a faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where he was a deacon, trustee, past president and vice president. He also was a member of the Toledo Rotary. John had a passion for golf and was able to golf in his 90's. He also enjoyed his lake home with his family, at Little Long Lake in Indiana where he was water skiing well into his 60's. Surviving are his son, Warren; daughter, Kathy (George) Myers; daughter-in-law, Joyce (Bill) Meyers; brother, Kenneth Friend 6 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Jean, of 68 years, John was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gary Friend; daughter-in-law, Sue Friend and sisters, Norma "Peggy" McPartland, Donna Skiver. Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road, Toledo, OH, where family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be private in Toledo Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy in John's memory can be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
