John 'œButch' Gocsik Sr., 87, 0f Oregon, Ohio passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 13, 1923 to Steve and Elizabeth (Magyar) Gocsik. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was employed as a line foreman at LOF for 32 years, retiring in 1985. John also was a truck driver for Olman Farm & Green House. He was a member of Dunberger American Legion Post, charter member of VFW Post 4906 and board member of the Hungarian Club and Birmingham Hall of Fame. John was also a past member of the Moose Lodge, Toledo. He enjoyed volunteering as a sausage maker at Calvin U.C.C. and sold produce at the Toledo Farmers Market.
Surviving are his wife, Elinor; son, John Jr. and brother, Stephen Gochik. John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ernest and sister, Margaret (Edward) Pawlicki
Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road with VFW Services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with interment following in Lake Township Cemetery. Contributions in John'™s memory can be made to the Birmingham Hall of Fame.
