John "Jack" Halka, Jr., 87, of Curtice, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003 in his residence. John was born in Toledo on March 4, 1915, to John and Mary (Pavlica) Halka. On August 20, 1938, he married Shirley M. Powers. John retired in 1972 from the Toledo Local Union #50 of Steamfitters, where he was a member for 56 years. He was a member of the Genoa Masonic Lodge #433 F&AM and Lodge #162 F&AM of Oak Harbor, Ohio.
John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley; children, John (Mary Jo) Halka IV, Donald (Patricia) Halka; 5 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosie Carr of Phoeniz, AZ and Annie Danya of Toledo; brother Joseph (Joyce) Halka. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Frank, Martin and Fred Halka.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rad, on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m., where his funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
