John E. Henning, 85 of Curtice, Ohio passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. John was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 4, 1929 to Myron and Charlotte (Roberts) Henning. John was a retired pipe fitter from Libbey Owens Ford Rossford Plant where he retired in 1980 after 30 years of employment. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church Yondota Rd, where he was a member of the St. Luke's Kum Double Club. John was a very community involved man; he served as a Boy Scout Leader Troop 131, Mavericks 4H Club leader, member of the Oregon Senior Center, past president of the Toledo Dulcimer Club, a member of the Polka Band and the Sentimental Journey Music Club. John was also heavily involved in Jerusalem Township where he served as a past trustee; past president of the Jerusalem Township Men's Democratic Club, Ohio Association of Township Trustees. John was very instrumental working with Barney Quilter and Marcy Kaptur to bring Maumee Bay State Park to fruition. John served as the first Assistant Fire Chief of Jerusalem Township. John also was a member of the Lucas County Sheriff's Auxiliary. In his spare time he enjoyed, coin collecting, fishing, camping, and going to garage sales, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Marjorie, children John (Brenda), Robert (Lee Ann), Margie (Larry) Mominee,; daughter-in-law, Sheri Henning; grandchildren, Lisa, John, James, Bradley, Gregory, Curtis, Benjamin, Jenna, Michelle, Chad; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary (Harry) Weldon; sister-in-law, Peachies Zinn. John was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Margaret Henning.
Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Tuesday from 2-9 pm and where Jerusalem Township Volunteer Fire Department Services will be held at 7 p.m… Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 20 Yondota Road, Curtice, Ohio, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of Sympathy in John's memory are asked to consider the Toledo Dulcimer Club or Jerusalem Volunteer Fire Dept.
