Obituary

John Paul Kralovic, 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, September 22, 2004. He courageously endured a long battle with cancer. John was born in Lamas, Czechoslovakia and migrated to the Toledo area with his parents, Thomas and Apolonia. He proudly served his country as a medic in the 497th Bomb Group in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was a life-long member of Holy Rosary Church and an active member of VFW Post 4906. John was a well-respected member of Iron Workers Local 55, spanning a 32-year career. He retired in 1985. John was featured in an August 19, 1984, Toledo Blade article as an example of a man who enjoyed working in a very dangerous profession. The article was entitled, "Life on the Edge of a Beam". He also served as canteen manager at the VFW until his retirement 2 years ago. John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy (Decker); sons, Mike (Kathy), Jan (Paula), Mark; daughters, Sue (Jack) Wlodarz and Christina (Bob) Ricker. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. John married Ann Marie Keivens, January 19, 1946. Their marriage produced four children. She preceded him in death in April of 1962. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tom, Joe and sister, Ann Marie Koren. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church, 821 N. Wheeling St., Toledo, OH on Saturday, September 25, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following Mass, a celebration of his life will be held at the VFW Post 2906 on Consaul St. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in a private service. Memorial donations can be made to Cardinal Stritch High School or the Iron Workers Local 55 Disaster Fund. Visitation: Visitation Times None
