John D. McKenzie II, 70 years old, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on June 18th, 2016 in Toledo, Ohio. John was born in Toledo, Ohio to Beatrice and John McKenzie on June 22nd 1945. He attended Immaculate Conception Elementary (Darby), and Macomber High School, in Toledo, Ohio. He married Karen M. Kasza on January 31st 1969 in St. Charles Catholic Church in Toledo. John was a veteran of the Viet Nam war and proudly served 20 years in the United States Air Force retiring at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He served active duty in Okinawa, Japan (69'-70'), Columbus, Ohio (70'-71'), Dyess, Texas (71'-76'), Glendale, Arizona (76'-80'), Soesterberg, Netherlands (80'-84'), and Plattsburg, New York (84-85'). As a second career he worked as a mail carrier, sorter, and equipment mechanic for the US Post Office in Toledo, Ohio retiring after 20 years. He enjoyed bowling, racquetball, golf, and spending time with this wife, children, and grandchildren. In his later years he was involved with Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) men's retreats. John is preceded in death by his father John, mother Beatrice, and brother Chris. John is survived by his wife Karen, children Jack (Kerri) and Fran, brothers Jim (Barb) and Jerry (Diane), and grandchildren Jake and Alec, Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21st at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home; Oregon Chapel, 440 S Coy Rd. Prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday and proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 628 Locust St., Toledo, Ohio for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with the Father Jacob Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery 5725 Hill Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43615.
