He was born in Toledo on August 6, 1945 to John and Mildred (Whitaker) McNally Sr. John attended Cardinal Stritch High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Korea where he served four years. One of his highlights was working with the children in orphanages whenever possible. He married the love of his life on June 19, 1970. Together they attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where he served as a eucharistic minister and president of the school board. He was a proud bowling coach at both Cardinal Stritch and St. Francis for many years. No one was a stranger to John. He was a social-butterfly. He was proud of his East Side heritage and volunteered with the River East Association and Helping Hands of St. Louis Church. He worked hard to create and operate Alternative Mailing Systems, Inc. where he sold and serviced machines for local businesses. He was actively involved in the Irish club, Otters club, and the Jamie Farr Classic/LPGA. When he wasn't volunteering in the community, he was found on the dance floor cutting-a-rug with Sherri and their dear friends at The Holiday Inn French Quarter.
