John James Nyers Sr., 78 of Curtice , Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in Fort Myers, Florida where he and his wife, Eleanor, spent their winters. John was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 14, 1939 to William and Katherine (Virag) Nyers. He was a graduate of Waite High School. John was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He was a Longshoreman for Toledo Overseas Terminal prior to working and retiring from the City of Oregon School System, where he was a Custodial Fireman. John was the past president of the I.L.A. and Oregon City Schools System. John enjoyed RV camping, feeding birds, flower gardens, and telling stories…..oh, the stories he could tell; also enjoyed Facebook, keeping in touch with others. John's true love was his wife, family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Eleanor; children, John J. Jr. (Sandra), Kimberly Casey, Brian Sr. (Andrea); grandchildren, Brian Jr. & Brandon Nyers, Ashley & Amber Casey, Monica Earl, James Nyers; great grandchildren, Justin, Damien, Naomi, Braiden, Connor, Christopher, Emma, Jack; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Kanavel, Carol Turner, Larry (Lucy) Cousino, Judy Dioletti, Terry (Linda), Rick (Lydia), Jeff (Gail), Scott (Tracy), Bill (Deb) Cousino, Tillie & Rita Nyers. John was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, John and Elsie Cousino brothers, William and Paul; brother- in -laws, Jerry, Wayne, Kenny Cousino, Lloyd Kanavel and Dominic Dioletti.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-8 pm at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon and where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in John's memory are asked to consider Christ United Methodist Church, Oregon, Ohio.
