John R. Powers, 98, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away August 19, 2009, at Heartland of Perrysburg. He was born in Tipton, Oklahoma on January 13, 1911, to John and Lucinda (Case) Powers. John was the oldest living member of Local #50, where he had been employed as a steamfitter for 45 years, retiring in 1974. Surviving are his grandchildren, Cynthia (Thomas) Bunting and Sandra Kay Markham; sisters, Joyce Halka, Rebecca Rose Maszk, Katie Kigar and Thelma Heffner; 8 great-grand-children and 16 great-great- grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emily Louise; daughter, Donna Redd; sisters, Mary Urbany, Shirley Halka and Rachel Sharp; brother, Jesse and Bill Powers. Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Friday from 2-9 p.m. and where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
