John J. (Jimmy) Sanders, 89 of Oregon, Ohio Passed away peacefully on November 8, 2022 at The Gardens of St. Francis in Oregon. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 3, 1933, to John and Barbara (Haydu) Sanders and spent his youth in the Birmingham neighborhood. John attended and graduated from Waite High School, where he played baseball. After graduation, John served in the Army as a machinist working at the Redstone Arsenal on the Redstone rocket program. While in the service, John continued playing baseball, with great success as a pitcher earning him a contract offer. After the Army, he served his apprenticeship at the Auto-Lite, and continued his tool and die career at Tillotson Carburetor. He also worked at Rowe Industries where he made multi-pin connector molds for the aerospace industry. John was a highly skilled tool and die maker who continued to work into his 80's, most recently for Connectronics. He married the love of his life Julie on August 10, 1968 and they were married for 51 years. John was an avid fisherman, golfer, and proud member of the Birmingham Hall of Fame and the Birmingham VFW. He loved to spend time with family and his great group of lifelong friends of 80+ years. He was known for making pickles and Cigany Szalonna (Hunky Turkey).
Surviving are his children, Laura (Christopher) Keune, John (Kristine) Sanders; grandchildren, Audrey, Nathan (Monae), Elizabeth, John, and Abigail; great grandchild, Matthew; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lola Kerbel, brother Roy Sanders, and his loving wife Julie.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 17, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 798 Coy Road Oregon, Ohio on Friday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in John's memory are asked to consider a charity of the donor's choice.
