Obituary

John Sofalvi, 93, of Oregon passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg. He was born on September 23, 1915, to Alex and Anna (Olah) Sofalvi. He worked at Interlake Steel for 43 years as a carpenter. He was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ. John was an avid golfer, making a hole in one at Detwiler Golf Course at hole number 6. He also was a hobbyist of photography, taking many pictures and developing the film himself. When not golfing or taking pictures, you could find John, fishing, gardening, bowling, or playing cards. With his carpentry skills, John made his grandchildren wood puzzles and games. His greatest enjoyment and love was being with and having his family around him. John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children, John K. (Beth) and Beverly Angel; brother, Joseph Sofalvi; grandchildren, Doug (Julie) Angel, Linda (Jim) Voutsas, Lori Angel, Michelle (Dave) Bryan, John A. Sofalvi, Christine (Rick) Greulich; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 5 step great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alex; sisters, Irene, Julie, Dorothy, and Annie. Visitation will take place on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon where funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m.. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in John's name can be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
