John L. Stephan of Northwood, Ohio passed away suddenly at the age of 71 Monday, June 14, 2021. His years-long struggle with diabetes led to heart failure as a result of diabetic cardiomyopathy. John was born in Toledo, Ohio September 7, 1949. He attended St. Stephen's Grade School, was a graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School and The University of Toledo.
John was fond of classic movies, was an avid chess player, and had a passion for football; cheering on The University of Notre Dame and The Ohio State Buckeyes. As a nature lover, John enjoyed spending time in his backyard admiring his flower garden, birdwatching, and feeding squirrels. He often visited Pearson Park, admiring the trees on long walks. John cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and walking his grand dog, Lucy Lou. John adored music and listened to early Rock and R&B music; his favorite band being the Beatles.
John is survived by his daughters Jennell and Jackie; grandchildren Paul (Rachel), Steven, Dezianne, Eva, & Emma; brother Andrew Stephan; and his beloved grand dog, Lucy Lou. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Stephan; and sisters, Phyllis Toth, Betty Lou Halub, and Suzanne Perlaky.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Friday, June 25, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 8:00pm. Family sharing of memories: 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00 am in Epiphany of the Lord Parish – St. Stpehen's Catholic Church, 2017 Consaul Street, Toledo, where the family will greet friends at 9:00am. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
