John L. John L. Warrington, 90, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Monday, May 22, 2006, at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. John was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 17, 1915, to John Amos and Mary Lucinda (Rahrig) Warrington. John had worked for Doehler-Jarvis for 42 years as a pipe fitter in the maintenance department, retiring in 1981. He was a graduate of Whitmer High School and later served with the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years in California, Idaho and Utah. Upon completion of that service he started working for Doehler-Jarvis until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in December of 1940, serving six years. He spent 46 months at sea aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Wasp when it was torpedoed and sunk at Guadalcanal in September 1942. He was also on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Princeton when she was sunk by enemy bombers in the second battle of the Philippine Sea. He earned the Purple Heart, the Atlantic ribbon, two silver stars and one bronze star designating eleven naval engagements, and the American theater ribbon. John was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church Men's League, Collingwood Lodge F. & A. M., Doehler-Jarvis Quarter Century Club, U.A.W. Local 1058, and the V.F.W. Post 7572 in Marblehead, Ohio. Suriving are his sons, Steven J. (Kathleen) Warrington, Thomas J. Warrington; brother, Clyde; sisters, Heloise Warrington, Mary Wirwahn, Ruth Rensland, Barbara Lasik. He was dearly loved by his family, all of whom were very proud of him. John was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; parents; brother, Nathan, and sister, Jean Schultz. Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:30 am. Interment to follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
