John W. Mitchell, 77 of Oregon, Ohio passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. John was born in Rosina, West Virginia on June 29, 1939 to Carl Carter and Orpha Ellen (Cantrell) Mitchell. John graduated from Woodward High School. After graduating he joined the United States Navy. He was a retired jobsetter for G.M Powertrain retiring after 32 years of employment. He was a member of Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church. John, a very strong man of faith enjoyed teaching Sunday school and at times preaching and singing. John was very instrumental campaigning for many politicians; attending conventions with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, but his true love was spending time with his family.
Surviving are his loving wife, Patricia Ann; children, John (Denise); Tammy (John) Stover, Kimberly (Chris) Dorn; grandchildren, John "JT", Cody, Brooke (Matthew), Jared, Josh, Devin, Brandon, Jadyn; great granddaughter, Peyton Marie; brothers, Paul, Joe, Jerry (Toni). John was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Richard Hornyak; siblings James, Rebecca Mullins, Doris Harris, Betty Compton.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 pm and Tuesday from 2-8 pm at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon and where his funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in John's memory are asked to consider Mercy St. Vincent Regional Heart Center. John's family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at St. V's Regional Heart Center for the excellent care provided to John and the compassion given to his family.
