Joseph J."Augie" Agoston, Jr., 90, of Oregon, Ohio passed away October 5, 2008 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. He was born in Toledo, OH on June 20, 1918 to Joseph Sr. and Rose Agoston. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He had been employed as a crane operator for the American Ship Building Company for 45 years, retiring in 1980. Joe was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Catholic Church and the Boilermakers Local #85. In his earlier years, he was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4906 National Championship Softball Team. He also had been inducted into the Birmingham Hall of Fame. Joe was a loyal Yankee and Notre Dame Football fan.
Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hazel; parents; sisters, Matilda Agoston and Rose Csomos; brother, Charles Agoston. Surviving are his sons, Robert (Kathy) and Michael (Sally) Agoston; daughter, Joanne (Dan) Romano; grandchildren, Sue Petrie, Thomas and Megan Agoston, Daniel, Andrea and Matthew Romano, Sadie Pawlinski, and Joe Trudeau; great grandchildren, Jennie Pawlinski, Austin and Kortnie Petrie; brother, Louis; sisters, Dorothy Hart and Mary Teal.
Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 2- 9 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 4:00 p.m. Scripture services will be held at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. and proceed to St. Stephens Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Josephs memory are asked to consider the Kidney Foundation or the Toledo Humane Society. Josephs family would like to thank the staff at St. Charles Hospital for all their loving care.
