Joseph P. Bistayi, 81, of Toledo, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2002 in Firelands
Regional Medical Center. He was born on January 25, 1921 to John and Susan (Bacho)
Bistayi in Toledo, OH and was the youngest of 12 children. Joseph was a graduate of
Waite High School. He served in the army during World War II and currently was a
member of the Disabled American Veterans . He was employed as a supervisor at
Nabisco Flour Mill in Toledo for 42 years, retiring in 1983. Joseph was a member of
Calvin United Church of Christ, where he served over 10 years on the Consistory Board
and participated in the Mens Brotherhood. For the past 5 years, he also, attended St.
Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa, Ohio. As a young man, Joseph performed with
the Toledo Light Opera.
Surviving are his sons, Rev. Joseph (Cheryl) Bistayi, Grand Rapids, MI, Thomas
(Shirley) Bistayi; sister, Lola Horvath; sister-in-law, Betty Jane Bistay; grandchildren,
Scott Bistayi, New York, Katie (Brian) Nolan, Sarah (Mark) Nocella, Matthew (Shellie)
Bistayi, Megan (Adam) Korzeniewski; great-grandchildren, Amber, Breanna, Zachary,
Emily and A.J.
Visitation will be held in the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home Coy Road Chapel, 440 S.
Coy Road on Sunday from 2 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at
11:00 a.m. in Calvin United Church of Christ, where the family will greet friends at
10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in North Oregon Cemetery. Those wishing to make an
