Joseph H. Chaney, 89, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in the Perrysburg Unit of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Mr. Chaney was born in Fremont, Ohio on March 13, 1921 to Joseph R. and Mildred (Carter) Chaney. He was a 1939 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and a US Army veteran of World War II. Joseph was employed for the US Postal Service at Station A for over 25 years before his retirement in 1988. He was a member of First St. John Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for 32 years, member of the dartball team for over 50 years and coached many of the church'™s ball teams. Joseph was also a member of the International Order of the Odd Fellows and enjoyed bowling.
Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Marian; daughter, Marilyn (David) Richards; sons, Reed (Debora) and Scott (Vanessa) Chaney; grandchildren, Eric (Christy) Richards, Shannon (Brian) McBroom, Jessica Chaney, James Chaney , Janelle Chaney and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Secrist and brother, Robert Chaney.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 2 to 9 pm in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy, Oregon, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Road, on Wednesday at 11:00am. where the family will receive visitors from 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St. John'™s Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Joseph'™s memory can be made to First St. Johns Lutheran Church.
