Joseph C. Christen, PhD.
Dr. Joe Christen, 55, passed away on August 5, 2004, at St. Vincent/Mercy Medical Center.
Joe's philosophy was to serve God by serving others. His life was full of times when he demonstrated this through loving service to many people that came into his life. Joe will be remembered for his loving generosity of his time and talent for helping other people find the good in themselves.
He was born to Ralph (Charlie) and Nellie Christen, September 22, 1948 in Curtice, Ohio. His parents and his sister, LaVonne, preceded him in death.
His love will continue through his wife, of 35 years, Christine, his daughters; Julie (John) Payeff, Andrea and Dana; grandsons, Brandon and Matthew; step-mother, Glenda; sister, Anna. His extended family, friends, and colleagues who helped make his life complete will also dearly miss him.
He was a 1966 graduate of Clay High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1969 – 1976. He continued his education at Bowling Green State University, receiving his bachelor of science in business administration in 1973, a master's degree in organization development in 1980, and a doctoral degree in counseling/psychology from the University of Toledo in 1989. He was employed with General Motors Parts Division where he was a Warehouse Supervisor for 6 years. In 1974, he joined The Andersons, in Maumee, Ohio as a Safety Specialist. He continued his career at The Andersons, in the Training and Organization Development field for 27 years, including his role as the Vice President Human Resource Development. Throughout his career, he was President and Owner of his own consulting firm, providing consultation and counseling services for individuals, corporations, and non-profit organizations, locally, nationally, and internationally on issues in the human resource field. Most recently, he was the Director of Organizational & Leadership Development, at the University of Toledo, in the process of building training and leadership programs for employees at the University. He also taught as an adjunct faculty member at many local universities and colleges – Bowling Green State University, Heidelberg College (Findlay, Maumee, and Tiffin campuses), Ohio State University, University of Michigan, and the University of Toledo.
Joe was a parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, in Oregon, Ohio where he generously gave of his time and talents on many committees. He served as a Board Member of Sky Bank (Oregon Branch), East Toledo Family Center, and SSOE, Inc (Toledo, Ohio). He was past President of Oregon/Northwood Rotary, and an active member of many other professional and community organizations. He donated endless hours of service to his community and the surrounding areas.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday and Monday from 2-9 p.m. at Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, at Coy Rd. and Starr Ave., Oregon, Ohio (419-698-4301) where a scripture and reflection service will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in the mortuary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ignatius Catholic Church with Rev. John Stites presiding. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
