Obituary

Joseph W. Fletcher, 68, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, June 19, 2023. Mr. Fletcher was born March 19, 1955, in Fremont, Ohio, to Joseph and Florence (Darr) Fletcher. Joe graduated from Genoa High School in 1973 where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball and track. In 2016, Joe was inducted into the Genoa High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Joe was employed with Brush Wellman / Materion in Elmore, Ohio, retiring in 2014. A lifelong sports fan, Joe attended countless local high school sporting events and traveled throughout the United States attending IndyCar and NASCAR races. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #4237, and a former member of the Clay-Genoa Volunteer Fire Department.

Joe is survived by his siblings, John (Lynne) Fletcher and Mary Reetz; sister-in-law, Juanita Fletcher; nephews & nieces, David (Sara) Fletcher, Joseph Reetz, Kelly Fletcher, Angela (Josh) Baltzell, Jason (Kimberly) Fletcher and Dylan Fletcher; along with great nephews & nieces, Jacob, Jackson, Sydney, Grayson, William and Eliana. He was preceded in death by his parents; longtime companion, Sandi Zunk; brothers, Donald J. Fletcher and Charles R. Fletcher; nephew, Donald J. Fletcher Jr.; and brother-in-law, Larry D. Reetz.

The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) Friday, June 23, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 South Main Street, Genoa, Ohio where the family will greet friends at 9:30 am. Joe will be laid to rest privately in Clay Township Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to the numerous doctors and nurses of Promedica Toledo Hospital who lovingly cared for Joe during his illness. Expressions of sympathy may be directed in the form of contributions to the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District or Genoa Athletic Boosters.
