Joseph Halicek Sr., 91, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. Joe was born in Genoa, Ohio on August 22, 1925 to Paul and Agnes (Valasek) Halicek. He retired from LOF Pilkington in 1985 after 40 years of service. Joe was a WWII Veteran where he served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. In 1944, Joe fought in the Battle of Ardens (Bulge) in France. Joe was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a charter member of St. Jerome Catholic Church; where he was an usher for over fifty years. Joe was one of the proud founding members of the Czech Slovak Dance Club of Millbury. He also was a member of the Genoa K of C. He also was a member of the National American Legion, National VFW, DAV, GBU, and the Toledo Swiss Club. Anyone who knew Joe, knows that he loved his hot dogs and mashed potatoes, but, his greatest love was his family.
Surviving are his wife, Dr. Mary Morgillo; children, Kathryn (David) Geisert, Joseph (Patricia) Halicek Jr, James (Mary) Halicek; grandchildren Jacob, Megan, Tyler, Eric; brother, John. Also surviving are Dr. Mary's children, Vincent (Linda), Robert (Allison) Morgillo, Sharon (Rick) Clevenger and Joe's beloved canine buddy, Cocoa. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lillian, brothers Paul and Martin.
Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, on Friday from 2-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St., Walbridge at 11:00 AM , where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass.
