Joseph J. Mlynek, 78, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 22, 1936 to Thomas and Agnes (Lucas) Mlynek. A native of the Birmingham neighborhood of Toledo, Joe was proud of his Czech heritage, being the first generation of his family born in the United States. He was a 1954 graduate of Waite High School where he excelled in football. Joe earned a Bachelor'™s degree from Bowling Green State University and a Master'™s degree from Eastern Michigan University. On April 8, 1970, he married Jeanette Beauvais. Joe worked as a physical education teacher in the Monroe Public Schools, inspiring thousands of students over 30 years, retiring in 1996. His hobbies included working in his yard, golfing, fishing, woodworking, and spending time by his backyard pond. He enjoyed spending summers at the cottage in Port Clinton and winters in the The Villages, Florida.
Joe is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeanette; sons, Chris (Kathy) Mlynek Joe (Kathleen Trudick) Mlynek; grandchildren, Lauren and Dean Mlynek; siblings, Paul (Linda) Mlynek and Helen Putnam; his dog, Jake; along with many loving family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Thomas Mlynek, Mary Teachout, Anna Swanson, Lillian Lammie, and Anna Mlynek.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 12:00 pm '" 6:00 pm, where a scripture service will be held at 4:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 am in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Road, Oregon, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Private interment will take place. Memorials may be directed to the Boys and Girls Club of Toledo, 1755 East Broadway Street, Toledo, Ohio 43605.
