Joseph Anthony Romano, 84 of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday morning, November 23, 2017 in his home with the love and affection of his family around him. Joe was born in Toledo on December 9, 1932 to Patrick and Theresa (Falcone) Romano. He was a faith filled, hardworking and humble man with a sense of humor who loved spending time with his family and helping those in need. Joe was a loving husband, devoted to his wife Joanne for 59 years. Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from Chesapeake Railroad and Libbey Owens Ford where he was given the nickname "Dollar Joe". He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
Surviving are his children, Cindy (Brad) Evers, Joe (Theresa) Romano, Tony (Angie) Romano and Chris Romano; grandchildren, Brad (Debbie), Jenny (Jeff), Tim, Joe, Emily (Josh), Michael (Ashley), Eric (Wendi), Sara (Spencer), Jacquie, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Abby, Samantha, Daniel, Andrew, Gabrielle, Aubrey, Karrigan, Olivia, Calhoun, Maverick, Leonardo and Saoirse; great-great grandson, Noah; brother Patrick, sisters-in-law; Inez Romano and Connie Fournier; brother-in-law, Jack Fournier. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joanne, great granddaughter, Madeleine and brother Nick.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Monday, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm with prayer and recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin with prayers in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:15 am and will proceed to St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd., Oregon, Ohio, for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Joe's memory are asked to consider St. Ignatius Church or St. Louis Helping Hands. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Max, Joe's caregiver, for the humor, love and compassion given to him. A warm thank you to Kendra for her friendship and kindness extended to Joe and a sincere thank you to the Oregon Fire Department, in particular Station 42 and Life Squad 8, for the care they have given Joe.
