Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Starkey III, 76, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly from a motorcycle accident, Friday, April 18, 2025. Joe was born November 10, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, to Joseph Jr and Dorothy (Hatch) Starkey. A lifelong resident of east Toledo, Joe attended Raymer School and graduated from Waite High School in 1966. Following graduation, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving for three years. He served aboard the USS America as a top clearance radioman during Vietnam. Following service in the Navy, Joe worked for Foodtown Supermarket until the store closed and retired from Riker Products. One of his greatest moments was going on Honor Flight with his good friend, Mike. The welcome home celebration meant the world to him. Joe's niece, Heather and nephew Justin, captured his heart forever. He loved being "Uncle Joe".

Joe is survived by his sister, Debbie (Paul) Lenkey; niece, Heather (Jeffrey) Beam; nephew, Justin (Stephanie) Lenkey; great nephews, Parker, Spencer, and Avery Lenkey; and Elliott Beam; beloved dog, Pal; along with many loving family members and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Private interment: Lake Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers may be directed to Toledo Animal Rescue or any animal rescue or veterans' organization.
