February 15, 1934 – August 7, 2025
Jovita R. Barrera, 91 of east Toledo, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025 in her residence surrounded by her loving family. Jovita was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Miguel and Anastacia (Duran) Rodriguez. On January 17, 1954 she married the love of her life, Leonardo Barrera. They shared 66 years of marriage prior to Leonardo's death.
Jovita dedicated her life to help raising her siblings and her six children and many grandchildren. She was a woman of deep faith and was a devout catholic. She worked many years as a counselor for Planned Parenthood. She also was a supporter International dancing groups from Mexico City while in Toledo for dance competitions. She and her husband enjoyed attending many of these competitions.
Jovita is survived by her children, Edna Sharp, Larry (Cathy), Mary (James) Barteck, Hector, Thelma Barrera, Many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonardo, daughter, Alma, granddaughter, Rachel, son-in-law, Clyde.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, from 2-8pm and where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, August 13 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial donation may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio
