On February 18, 2025, Joyce Downey passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long illness at the age of 91. Joyce was born on August 6, 1933, in Kincaid, Fayette, West Virginia to Bernard Venson Ray and Anna Bell Ray (Franklin). Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Thornton Frank Downey and son Frank Downey. She is survived by her children: David Downey (Rose), Karen Wright (Lloyd), Sharon Jones (Steve), and Jackie Schumaker (Tom); 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She began her life journey in West Virginia with her parents and many siblings in humble surroundings. She worked at a dental office in Oak Hill West Virginia and met our dad just out of military service. He left for Ohio for a job and mom left West Virginia on a train to join him to begin their married life. They both worked and lived in the Toledo-Rossford area their entire working careers. Outside of her job and raising a family, Joyce liked to crochet, and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed having pets, especially cats and had a real heart for animals. In this time of mourning, we find comfort in the good memories we shared with Mom. Though she may no longer be with us, we will carry fond memories of our family gatherings. Rest in peace, dear Mom. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 10:00 am until funeral service at 12:00 pm. Interment: Lake Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Toledo Humane Society or a local cat shelter of your choice.
