Juanita (Sue) Maas, née Mayer, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 28, 2026 at the age of 82. She was born in Tiffin to Donald Sr. and Aline (Benner) Mayer. She was raised in Toledo and graduated from St. Ursula Academy in 1962. In November 1964, she married the love of her life, Rollin (Ron) and in 1966, they moved to Oregon, Ohio, where they raised their family.
Sue's life was heavily oriented around family. From road trips with her parents and siblings, to vacations with her children and grandchildren, Sue loved to travel with family. She collected rocks from each place she visited. Other pastimes included fishing with her husband for bass, perch, bluegill and pike on lakes in Michigan. Evenings during family vacations were spent playing cards, where she was a master at Euchre and Phase 10. Before starting a family, Sue worked at the Toledo Library. Her love of books continued throughout her life. Being able to access ebooks on her iPad changed her life and allowed her to continue exploring the world from the comfort of her home. Later in life, she enjoyed assembling puzzles with whomever would sit with her. She was silly and sassy and she often fell asleep while watching Hallmark movies. Her home was always open to her children's friends and many found refuge within its walls. All were welcomed into her home, and she had a pleasantness that could comfort even a weary soul. Her calmness and easy-going nature were top shelf.
Sue is predeceased by Ron (Rollin Lee), her husband of 53 years, her parents (Donald Sr and Aline), and siblings Donald Jr. and Gene. Sue is survived by her sister Mary (Carroll); brother Francis; sister-in-law Lou; children Theresa (Thomas) Anger; Robert; and Sandra (Timothy) Strayer and grandchildren; Megan and Kelly Anger, Nadia and Mark Dembowski, Tatum, Zoe and Naomi Strayer. She will also be deeply missed by her many, many nieces and nephews as well as close family friends, the Castor and Wood families. The family would like to thank her neighbors for their help over the years and the staff of Bay Park Hospital and Hospice of NW Ohio for their compassionate care.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, Sept. 6 from 1-4 PM with a service at 4 PM at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home on 440 S Coy in Oregon. A reception will immediately follow at Intersection Church at 1640 S Coy in Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of NW Ohio.
