Judie E. Szepesi, 94, of Toledo, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
She was born in Coal Center, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1916 to John and Anna (Keregarto) Thomas. She married John 'œSheppy' Szepesi, and he preceded her in death in 1980. Judie was well known for her work as a seamstress; making communion gowns, wedding dresses, and Hungarian embroidery. She was proud of her Hungarian heritage, cooking many ethnic foods. For many years, Judie volunteered as a quilt maker for the Birmingham Festival quilt. She was a longtime member of St. Stephens Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar Rosary Society. Her activities included Hungarian Club of Toledo, volunteer with Meals on Wheels and East Toledo Senior Center. Judie will be remembered most for the care and compassion she gave to her many relatives when they were ill.
Judie is survived by her children, Barbara Jean (Robert) Smith, Nancy (Jack) Wise, and Charles Szepesi; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Teresa Vecari. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road @ Starr Ave. on Tuesday, March 1st from 10:00 am '" 12:30 pm. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 pm with prayers in the funeral home and proceed to St. Stephens Catholic Church for funeral services at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
