Obituary

Julia Balogh passed from this life to her eternal home on September 3, 2014. She was greeted by her husband Albert from whom she has been apart far too long. Julia was born on September 8, 1923 in Albany, Louisiana to Bertalan and Barbara Farkas. The family was blessed with nine children, and Julia was the youngest girl. The Farkas family farmed strawberries, along with many animals to support the family. Her first job out-of-the-home was in an ice cream shop in Albany. She came to Toledo in 1942 and lived with her sister'™s family, Elizabeth and Gilbert Barta. Her parents sold the farm in 1944 and she moved into the new family home on Burr Street. She was hired at Libbey Glass and decorated Coca-Cola glasses. In 1956, she transferred to O-I Technical Center and retired from there in 1981 after 39 years of service. Julia met Al Balogh in 1946 in the Rumpus Room on Consaul Street. They were married on June 28, 1947. Their final residence was on Haddington Lane. Al and 'œJudy' loved to travel and wanted to visit every US state. Their last trip was to Hawaii as Albert died in 1973. Judy continued to live at Haddington with her precious dogs until she could no longer maintain the large property and moved to Heartland of Oregon in 2010. Judy loved to travel and made many trips to Hungary. She was very proud of her Hungarian heritage and worked tirelessly for the Birmingham Community. She was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Consistory, Lorantffy and served on many committees. She started classes at Calvin for the ladies young and old to learn Hungarian Embroidery. Judy was a member of the Hungarian Club of Toledo and served as an officer and helped at the Birmingham Ethnic Festival. She was recognized with the Birmingham Hall of Fame award. Judy was also a past president of the Toledo-Szeged Committee and board member of Toledo Sister Cities International. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John (Elizabeth) Farkas, Peter Farkas, Paul Farkas; sisters, Lola Farkas, Elizabeth (Gilbert) Barta and Pearl (Frank) Visi; infants, Ilona and Paul. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Dorothy Farkas and Doris Balogh, along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Heartland of Oregon who tended to Aunt Judy'™s every need. She was blessed to have people to care for her that knew the meaning of compassion. Special thanks to Deb and Terri who went out of their way to make our Aunt comfortable. Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Calvin United Church of Christ, 1946 Bakewell Street, on Monday at 11:00 a.m. and where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
