Karen S. Chisholm, beloved daughter of Richard H. (1922-1970) and Betty J. Chisholm, and brother of Richard D. (1946-1983) and Kenneth M. finally rid herself of the shackles of breast cancer on December 29, 2008, and after a long and valiant battle, went home to be in the loving arms of her God, family members and close friends that went before her. Karen grew up in East Toledo, and was a life-long resident of the greater Toledo area. She was a graduate of Morrison R. Waite High School, Heidelberg College and the University of Toledo. Among other interests, Karen was a member of the Waite High marching band where she played the oboe, and was also a majorette, two things she loved to do. Karen's professional career, born of over 15 years of scholastic education and training, was devoted to both the educating and counseling of students in various grade levels throughout the Oregon and Washington Local school systems. She was also active in the Oregon Business and Professional Women's Organization, the Toledo Animal Shelter Auxiliary and volunteered for the annual Komen Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Karen willingly devoted many a day helping with numerous bloodmobile drives with the American Red Cross. With all that was invading her life, she still loved to give of herself to others. Karen was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cincinnati Reds fan and could debate player stats and team histories like "one of the guys". In spite of her long struggle with breast cancer, Karen always lived her life to its fullest, cherishing her many friends and not allowing the cancer to dictate it. She found time and ways to be involved with the two most precious things in her life, her two children, as well as supporting, in both money and deed, her treasured charities: the Susan Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Toledo Animal Shelter, the American Cancer Society and the Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity of the University of Toledo Karen was preceded in death by her father, Richard H., and brother, Richard D. Karen leaves behind to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: son, Richard Ramsdell; daughter, Cheney Ramsdell; brother, Ken (Bernice) Chisholm; mother, Betty Chisholm; many cousins, nieces, nephews, best friend, Suzanne Thompson and other close friends too numerous to count. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at St Joan of Arc Parish, 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd., on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. In keeping with her giving spirit and supportive nature, contributions/memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be given in her memory to the Susan Susan G.
