On Monday, January 10, 2022, Karen I. Hoffer (Tholl) joined her life-long love, Calvin, in heaven. She said goodbye to him only two short months ago, and they are now united again. Mom died with her family around her, and had spent the last days of her life listening to the golden oldies and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren laugh and talk over the computer. After a difficult several months of hospital stays, she is finally at peace.
Mom's life was full, as she stayed at home raising Gretchen, Matt, and Jennifer until 1988, then returned to the working world in the office of Dr. Blossom, D.C. Eventually Mom found the office of Dr. David Fields, D.C., and worked there for 18 years until her retirement. Mom held a special place in her heart for Doc and the office staff, especially Chrissy, with whom she maintained a special friendship even after her retirement.
Mom accompanied Dad on many adventures throughout their 54 years together, most of them involving train rides. Although they could be heard bickering back and forth, they loved each other immensely. After retiring, Mom enjoyed reading romance novels, ordering gifts from the dozens of catalogs she received, and falling asleep on the couch with Dad watching prime time tv shows. She definitely enjoyed her life of leisure! Mom has been a member of Zion Lutheran Church (Latcha) for over 40 years. She was a member of the alter guild, assisted with Luther League and along with Dad, arranged flowers on the altar for Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost celebrations.
Missing her are her children, Gretchen (Mike) Densic, Matthew (Beth) Hoffer, and Jennifer (Duane) Heinze; grandchildren, Lauren (Hans) Schober, Joel (Abby) Densic, Jessica Densic, Sam and Nate Heinze, and Alexandra and Isaac Hoffer; great grandchildren, Julia and Jonathan Schober, niece, Melissa Tholl; and aunt, Phyllis Ireland. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellen Tholl (Ireland), and sister, Lynn Smith.
Visitation for Karen will take place at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, 1111 Woodville Rd., Millbury, Ohio, from 2pm to 8pm on Sunday, January 16th. Funeral services will be at 11am on Monday, January 17th, at Zion Lutheran Church, 26535 Pemberville Rd., Perrysburg, Ohio, with visitation there beginning at 10am. A luncheon will immediately follow the service, and internment will be private.
Memorial Contributions may be offered in Karen's name to the Promedica Foundation c/o Bay Park ICU, 444 N. Summit St., Suite 100, Toledo, Ohio 43604 or The Autism Society of Northwest Ohio, 7140 Port Sylvania Drive, Toledo, OH 43617, asno.org/donate-2/. Family would like to thank the Promedica Bay Park Hospital ICU staff for their outstanding care of Mom over the past several weeks. We especially thank Sara, Heidi, Ashley, Hannah, Anne Marie, Amy, and all of the overnight nurses who cared for Mom.
While these last few months have been difficult for our family, we are blessed to know Mom was able to be a tissue donor, and she will be able to help many others heal and return to better health. We know she is with Dadand enjoying her heavenly life. We love you both!
