Kathleen "Kathy" J. Ginter, 71, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Hospice Center. Kathleen was born on February 7, 1955 in Toledo, Ohio to Thomas and Rose (Marcinek) Garvin.
She had a creative spirit and a love for being outside. She enjoyed painting, reading, and spending time in her garden, and she was always happiest camping or out on the water canoeing. On a trip to Hocking Hills State Park, she confidently claimed she was the best at canoeing, only to find herself stuck along the bank more than once, something she would laugh about and others will never forget. She loved hopping in the car for a drive, even if there wasn't a real destination. She enjoyed football games and sporting events, as well as fishing and hunting. She also liked golfing, though she would be the first to admit she wasn't very good at it. Whether she was shooting pool, playing games, or just spending time with others, she had a way of making everyday moments feel easy and enjoyable.
At the heart of everything was her love for her family. She adored her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Her home was more than just a place, it was a feeling. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for. That same warmth extended to her love for animals. Dogs were always part of her life, and she cared for them with the same affection and loyalty she gave to the people around her.
She will be remembered for her incredible cooking, especially her homemade pierogies, which she made with pride and perfected over the years. She was also known for her honest critiques of anyone else's attempts, always delivered with a little humor. She loved cooking and grilling outdoors, surrounded by the people she cared about most.
She carried an adventurous spirit throughout her life. She wasn't afraid to do things on her own, taking a train to California by herself and even hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. She lived life on her own terms, with strength and independence, and created memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Tara); her significant other of 20 years, Michael Kendrick; her brothers, Thomas (Dana) Garvin and Jaymes Garvin; her grandchildren, Payton, Penelope, and Everly; her nieces, Rachael Garvin and Melissa (Will) Carter; along with many cousins who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph Garvin.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a celebration of life honoring Kathleen at 6:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd.
Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Kathleen's name are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or LC4 (Lucas County Canine Care & Control).
