Kent Allan Glauser, 82 of Northwood, Ohio, passed away in his residence on Friday, November 17, 2017 with his loving wife by his side. Kent was the only child, born in Toledo, Ohio on June 7, 1935 to John and Florence (Brown) Glauser. He was a 1953 Waite High School Graduate. Kent was the former president and manager of the Glausers Flowers, Inc. flower shop and greenhouse in Northwood. Kent attended and graduated from the American Floral Art School in Chicago as a floral designer.
On January 25, 1958 he married Dolores (Pitzen) and they spent many years traveling, canoeing, fishing, enjoying
outdoor activities and following students in their sports and academics.
As previous outdoor Blade editor Steve Pollick said Kent was a quiet-spoken, yet garrulous field man -- "the man with the camp stool." The stool made outdoor activities easier for him since he couldn't stand in one place, due to foot problems.
Kent was a very self motivated, dedicated and determined person. He was well read, self taught in many fields of nature and liked to be well prepared for all naturalist activities. He was very caring and loved to share his knowledge with others of all ages. Consequently, he led many field trips for several nature organizations in Ohio, Michigan, and Canada. Kent also wrote many nature articles for Toledo Naturalists' Association, Essex County Field Naturalists, and Field Botanists of Ontario publications. His main subject became wildflower identification and he would do "big day" events which he identified as many species of wildflowers as he could in a day within 100 miles of Toledo. On August 14, 1990 he confirmed 225 species. Bird watching was also another favorite hobby and he usually had an unusual and sometimes humorous story about them. In 1997 Kent was made Naturalists' of the Year for TNA.
With all his knowledge and love of sharing he touched many lives both young and old. Even with the many hobbies Kent felt the most rewarding of them all was following the young athletes and students in the sports and academics. He will be missed!
Kent is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolores; although Kent and Dolores had no children of their own, they had many…all the athletes they supported, encouraged and followed over the past 40 years. Kent was preceded in death by his parents and his favorite aunt, Helen Brown.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 2-8 and on Monday from 9:30 until 11:00am at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon and where his funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday.
Dolores would like to thank Ohio Living Hospice and staff for taking care of Kent and making him comfortable. His main nurses, Jason, Cat, Lori, and Diana were greatly appreciated.
