Lamont E. Phillips, 70, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, in his home. He was born in Clay Center, Ohio on October 14, 1938, to Hugh and Pearl Phillips. Lamont was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He had been employed as cutter-grinder at GM Powertrain for 45 years before his retirement in 2004. Lamont was a member of Oregon Volunteer Fire Department, Station #3 for 35 years. He also served for the Millbury Volunteer Fire Department for 7 years. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Dunberger American Legion Post. He enjoyed wood working, repairing small engines and camping. Surviving are his wife, Marlene; sons, David and fiancée, Betty, Donald (Beverly) and Dean; 7 grandchildren, Rebekah, Michaiah, Marissa, Joshua, Jeremiah, Hannah and Josiah. Lamont was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Deborah Phillips. Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Friday from 2-9 p.m. where Oregon Fire Dept services will be at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Clay Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Lamont's memory can be made to the Lewis Avenue Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
