Obituary

Laura L. Nixon, beloved mother and nana, passed from this world to the next on July 17th, 2024 in Oregon, OH, surrounded by her family and dear friends, after a 5-year battle with cancer at age 75.

In life, Laura received her associates degree from The University Toledo, working as a paralegal for many years until she retired and began her tenure at Meijer as a greeter. This was a role that she took seriously, thriving in her interactions with customers, listening to some as they shared their stories and delighting all with her joke of the day. She enjoyed reading many genres of books (especially with her book club), she shared her love of reading with the students at Coy school, where she volunteered to read with and tutor students who were struggling. She enjoyed putting together puzzles and crocheting a variety of different projects. She also frequently enjoyed lunch and coffee dates with her friends, and practicing her latest joke routines. Laura loved sending gifts to the children at Toledo Children's Hospital in the name of Jeff and Bailey, donating meals and secret Santa gifts to various places during the holidays. She kept these generous actions to herself, (and the people that helped her carry them out), because she believed, "if you tell people about it, then it doesn't count".

Laura was preceded in death by her husband William Edward Nixon Jr, grandchildren Jeffry Hegarty and Bailey Hayden, and her siblings Patrick Desmond and Theresa Amberg Chattaway. She is survived by her siblings Elaine Mohr, Timothy Desmond, Kathleen Powell, her children Lisa (Michael) Gordon, William Nixon III, Rebecca (Matthew) Belford, Patrick Nixon, her grandchildren Jacob (Laura, fondly referred to as Junior) Richards, Benjamin Richards, Maxx (Amanda) Gordon, Chase (Anna) Nixon, Destiny Sillamen, Taylor Myers, Victoria Belford, and her great-grandchild Castiel Richards.
