Laura Ann Scothern, 93, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. Laura was born in Oregon, Ohio on March 9, 1925 to John and Bena (Nonnemaker) Gladieux. Laura was a 1943 graduate of Clay High School. She postponed her entrance to nursing school to serve in the WWII effort as an employee of the LOF war airplane department and was known as one of the first "Rosie the Riveters". She married her true love Roy, in 1949 and raised two children. Later, Laura worked at Ayling & Reichert Stamping Company, was a telemarketer for National Family Opinion, Board of Elections, and a member of St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary. Laura was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She and her family enjoyed their summers at their lake house at Vineyard and she later loved traveling with family and her husband on their motorcycle. She will be forever remembered for her unconditional love of family, passion for reading, puzzles, dance, her amazing wit, and for making others laugh. Surviving are her children, Debra (Richard) Horvath; Guy E. Scothern; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Scothern; siblings, Fred Gladiuex, Mildred Clark-Cowell, Gertrude Lutes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday October 23, 2018, at 11:00 am in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Road, Oregon, OH, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
