LaVerne "Cookie" Minton Brewer, 79, was unexpectedly called Home to be with our Lord on Friday, April 16, 2021 at her home at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg. She was born on October 29, 1941 in Waynesboro, Tennessee to John Minton and Lona Pulley Minton. She was a 1960 Graduate of Woodward High School in Toledo. She married Dennis Brewer on November 25, 1961. She was the Owner-Operator of Custom Drapery Service, helping countless people in the Northwest Ohio area grace their homes with her talented skill as a seamstress and designer. Before opening her own business, she was a seamstress for Bruce Roberts Interiors, then in Rossford, Ohio. She was a past Treasurer of Christian Women's Club, leading many Bible Studies in her home. She was also one of the founding members of a close-knit Bunco group who met monthly for over 50 years. After she retired, she and Denny moved to The Villages, Florida, where she enjoyed the warm sunshine, a wonderful group of friends, and playing and teaching Mahjong. She was a life-long, avid reader, loving to read anything to do with mysteries and who-done-its. Cookie (a name given to her by her father – and which she truly loved being called) was a quiet warrior, battling three different types of cancer along with other health issues, as well as the difficulties brought on throughout her life, with a never-ceasing calmness, acceptance, and love for her family and friends - always opening her home, lending an ear, and helping whenever or wherever needed.
Cookie is survived by her sons, Dennis (Suzanne) and Timothy (Susan); grandchildren, Kayleigh (Kyle) O'Shea, Shannon (Justin) Van Aken, Thomas (Alexandrea Like) Brewer, Olivia Brewer, and Steven Brewer; great-grandchildren, Hannah O'Shea, Killian O'Shea, and Rebecca Van Aken (of whom she was most proud), along with many nieces, nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-law, as well as many friends, both in Ohio and Florida and all of whom she dearly loved. Along with her husband and her parents, Cookie is preceded in death by her son, David Scott Brewer; grandson, Joseph Brewer; sisters, Jackie Frankevic, Betty Fedderman, and Marvella Minton; and brothers, John Minton and Roy Minton, as well as other beloved family members.
Family and friends will gather at Eggleston, Meinert, & Pavley Funeral Home – Oregon Chapel on Friday, April 30, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with funeral services being Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation to start at 10:00 a.m. COVID-19/pandemic precautions will be strictly required and followed.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the entire staff at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg, especially Linda, Kristina, Put, Matt, Brenda, Scott, and Laura Rothschild, as well as Dr. Thomas McAlear, for their WONDERFULLY STELLAR care of Cookie since she has been back home in Ohio. We are extremely blessed and grateful for your kindness, compassion, and expertise.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation in Cookie's name be made to St. Jude's Children's Research, or a charity of the donor's choice.
