Obituary

Lawrence A. Doktor, 87, of Medina, Ohio, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at the Western Reserve Masonic Community. Larry was born October 4 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to Alex and Elizabeth (Tamas) Doktor. He attended Birmingham Primary School and graduated form Morrison R. Waite High School in 1953. During high school, Larry worked for a local furniture store and upon graduation, joined AT & T in Toledo, Ohio as an indoor/outdoor test worker. In 1958, Larry was drafted into the United States Army, serving in the 11th Armored Cavalry, spending 20 months patrolling the German/Czechoslovakia border. Following military service, Larry returned to Toledo, Ohio working for AT& T & Owens-Illinois until 1969. He relocated to Mansfield, Ohio joining United Telephone Company of Ohio retiring in 1994. Never one to sit quietly in a rocking chair, Larry continued working part time for 13 years in the catering division of a friend's restaurant until 2006.

Larry enjoyed worldwide travel. He traveled extensively in Europe, tracing his family genealogy in Hungary; visiting the church where his dad was baptized. He enjoyed swimming in the blue waters of the Caribbean visiting Aruba, the Bahamas, and St. Lucia. Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1986, and was a member of Venus Lodge 152 of Mansfield, Ohio. He was a 52-year member of the Mansfield, Ohio Elks Lodge #56 and was Exalted Ruler in 1976. Larry made his home at the Western Reserve Masonic Community since 2018, serving as president of the Assisted Living Resident's Council and served on the board of the All Campus Executive Council.

Larry is survived by his brother, Thomas (Kathleen) Doktor; nieces, Michelle (Dave) Wawrzynski and Lori (Greg) Surtman; great niece & nephews, Sara Wawrzynski, Jack Surtman and Andrew Surtman; and longtime companion, Sylvia Arceci. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private graveside services with military honors will be held at Willow Cemetery, Oregon, Ohio. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice. Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
