Lawrence "Hans" Wetli, 91, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Swan Creek Retirement Village surrounded by his loving family. Hans was born August 15, 1912, in Toledo, Ohio to Godfrey and Gertrude (Dahm) Wetli. He was drafted in the U.S. Army serving his country during WWII. On October 19, 1940, he married Catherine M. Naumann, who survives. Hans and his wife owned and operated the Wetli's Menswear in East Toledo for 50 years, retiring in 1983. Once retired, they made their home in Clearwater, Florida until moving back to Toledo in 2003. Hans was a long time devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, also a past member of Knights of Columbus, Oregonians, Kiwanis, East Toledo Club.
In addition to his loving wife Catherine, Hans is also survived by his children, Susan (Norm) Feck, Sr. Mary Lawrence SND (Cathy Wetli), Dick (Vickie) Wetli; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Wetli. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Hans was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Tom Wetli; brother, Alfred Wetli; sisters, Sophie Wetli, Marie Russell, Agnes Bohland and Gertrude "Dodo" Stoiber.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 509 Oswald Street, Toledo, OH, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Hans' memory are asked to consider the sisters of Notre Dame or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
