Lawrence M. Morgan, Sr., 85, of East Toledo, passed away at home while holding his daughter's hand on Friday, June 16, 2017. Larry was born in Toledo on March 23, 1932, to Gaylord Verco and Jessie (Yates) Morgan. He attended Macomber High School and worked as an assembler at Willys Overland. Larry served in the U.S. Army as a private first class in the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart. He was a union man who worked as an insulator for Heat and Frost Insulators Local 45, inspiring his son and several family members to join him in the trade.
Surviving are his children, Larry Jr., Therese Gordon, and Mary Zientek; sons-in-law, Jeff Gordon and Jim Zientek; grandchildren, Angel, Adam, Daniel, Emily, Jonathan, Jessica, Jayden, Jayme Lauren and Jayna Mary; great-grandchildren, Antonio and Desiree; sisters, Nancy (Dave) Irwin and Margaret "Peggy" Anderson, sisters-in-law Sadie Morgan, Shirley Morgan, and Patricia (Joseph) Culbertson, brother-in-law Dick Wentz, and several nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 54 years, Mary Therese, grandson, Anthony, and siblings, Dorothy Kuster, Gaylord "Bud" Jr., Richard, Don and Albert "Vic", and brothers-in-law Kenny Anderson and Jerry Kasper. Larry was cared for in his final months by Jessica and Therese, with help from Elizabeth, his Hospice of Northwest Ohio nurse, so he could carry out the rest of his life at home as he had wished.
Larry enjoyed being at home with his beloved wife, taking his daughter to her piano lessons and recitals, participating in Morgan family reunions, taking care of his birds, watching NASCAR races and Ohio State football, cheering on his grandchildren from the bleachers at their sporting events, and fishing and boating at his daughter and son-in-law's home. Larry's grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved watching them play in his living room and in the yard. He liked to put on 3D movies for them and call them to turn on the TV when a particularly good show was on. Our hearts are now his home. We'll always remember your love, Dad, your strong hands, and your beautiful blue eyes. As always, his last thoughts were about us. "Well, bye. Love you all. See you on the other side."
Visitation and services will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Wednesday, June 21, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Autism Society of Northwest Ohio.
