Obituary

Lenora Stinson-Booth, 79, passed away on December 30, 2024, at St. Vincent Heart and Vascular Center surrounded by her family. She was born on August 11, 1945 to Ebb Lee Stinson and Ila Allen-Stinson in Frisco City, Alabama. She moved to Toledo with her two daughters circa late 1960's to be near her mother, Ila, who relocated from Alabama to Toledo after her sons moved to this area after serving their country.

Lenora came from a southern family of (23) brothers and sisters. Her mother's first husband was John Raymond McKinley who passed away on August 11, 1933 at the age of 35 and together they had (5) boys. Her mother later married Ebb Lee Stinson, who was a widower with (12) children following the death of his first wife Verdie Burkett Stinson in 1935. Ebb and Ila later married having (6) more children. Lenora was the 22nd born of the (23) children.

She grew up on a farm of approximately 79 acres in Frisco City, Alabama. Her and her siblings farmed the fields that included cotton, corn, okra, sugar cane, peanuts, pecans, and cucumbers. They raised livestock including cows, goats, chickens and hogs, chopped wood, shucked and ground corn for the cornmeal, churned cow's milk for butter and buttermilk, and at day's end, prepared meals and baked pies from their day's work.

After moving to Toledo, she was a single mother raising two daughters, Cindy and Jennifer. She put herself through school graduating from Davis Community College studying medical transcription. She then began a career as a hospital admissions clerk at Riverside Hospital in north Toledo. When that hospital closed, she transferred to St. Anne's Hospital where she retired as a supervisor in admissions.

She was a storyteller and she was telling them until her last moments. If you were in her presence, you were going to hear many of them, most of them about her childhood on the farm, the "shenanigans" amongst her siblings, or just a random story that came to her mind, she loved sharing them and her favorite listeners were her grandsons Jason and Nicholas.

Her passion was gardening and there wasn't a day during the spring or summer that she wasn't tending to her flower garden. She loved animals and over the years, if a homeless animal showed up at her doorstep, she would eventually provide it a home. She loved taking vacations and spending time with her family and telling those stories! She was of Baptist faith and attended many churches over the years but most recently, Neighborhood Baptist Church of Oregon, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ebb Lee Stinson and mother Ila Stinson; her baby boy, Jason Keith Booth; son-in-law, John Owensby (Jennifer); brother-in-law, Robert Chandler (Myriam Francis); (5) McKinley brothers, Willard, Wilburn Lamar, Herbert, Marion Cecil and John Raymond, (7) Stinson brothers, Eugene, Chester, Gillis, Herman, Clifford, Therion, Percy, and (7) Stinson sisters, Anna Ruth, Bertha Asberry, Ruby Byrd, Merle Letson, Opal Black, Mildren Finlayson, and Verdie Black.

Lenora is survived by her daughters, Cindy Buchan (Bruce), and Jennifer Booth-Owensby; grandsons, Jason Buchan (Taylor St. Clair) and Nicholas Buchan; sister, Myriam Francis Chandler; brothers, Billy Stinson (Joyce) and Randall Stinson; and sister-in-law, Monique Stinson (Eugene), and many nieces and nephews.
