Obituary

Leo R. Mapes, 88, longtime resident of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away May 9, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio on August 23, 1922 to Scott and Mary (Long) Mapes. Leo was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and was present at the Battle of Normandy. He had been employed as a field engineer at Scholz Homes and also worked for the Carpenters #248 since 1946. Leo was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg and the VFW Post #4461. He was an avid fisherman and loved boating on Lake Erie. Leo was one of the biggest OSU fans around. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Rose Marie; daughter Patricia (Gary) Oberhaus; son, Jeffery Mapes Sr.; grandchildren, Holly (Brad) McCormick, Marcus Monday, Jeffery L. Mapes Jr., Braden Mapes, Avery Mapes and Emerald Mapes; great grandchildren, Brad McCormick Jr. and Hannah McCormick; sister, Winifred. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg, E. Second St. at Elm St., Perrysburg, Ohio on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy in Leo'™s memory can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
