Leonard "Howdy" Yates Jr., 63, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his family on January 21, 2016. Howdy was born on October 5, 1952 in Toledo, Ohio to Leonard and Dorothy (Carr) Yates Sr. He graduated from Macomber High School in 1970 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a proud Veteran serving during the Vietnam War as a chopper gunner. After his service he briefly worked for Chrysler and later at Temp Glass as a fabricator. Most recently Howdy enjoyed gardening, hunting, and donating to various charities. He was a practical joker, life member of the NRA and avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Most important was spending time with his family.
Surviving are siblings, Tom (Carol) Phipps, Mike Yates, Dave (Sherry) Yates, Julie (Ron) Morse, Spencer (Stephanie) Yates; many nieces, nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Butch Rydman, Sharon Lynch, Mary Rickman, Marge Rowly; 3 nephews and 2 nieces.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Willow Cemetery.
