Lester R. Cowell, 79, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 15, 2004. He was born in Toledo Ohio on April 18, 1925 to Clarence and Marie (Kunkle) Cowell. Mr. Cowell was an Army Air Corp veteran of WW II. Lester served as an aerial gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress with the 15th Air Force's 99th Bomb Group, 416 Squadron. He was employed for 41 years at the Libbey Owens Ford Company where he retired as general foreman in the template department in 1987. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, member and past president of the Northwest Ohio Watercolor Society. His other memberships included the Toledo Artists Club, The Toledo Museum of Art and the Swiss Mens Society where he golfed in the Swiss Golf League. Lester had exhibited his watercolor paintings at the Toledo Botanical Gardens for over 22 years and was recognized by the city of Northwood for his cultural contributions to the Arts. He played in both Toledo Federation Basketball and Baseball leagues and was a member of the 1947 All Star Baseball Team.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Marian (Adkins) Cowell; son, Ted (Rhonda) Cowell; daughters, Karen Storer (Mark Storer), Janet (Jeffrey) Clough; brother, Ellwood (Mary) Cowell; sister, Margie (Loyd Paul) Lindesmith; grandchildren, Jennie, Angie, Kevin, Melissa, Andrew, Amber and Heather; great grandchildren, Arel and Kosi. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edwin, Clyde and Kenneth Cowell
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 6 to 9 pm and Sunday from 2 to 9 pm in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, Coy Road at Starr Ave in Oregon. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Lester's honor can be made to St. Paul's Radio Ministry, Wood County Senior Center in Bowling Green or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The family's heartfelt thanks for the staff of Orchard Villa for their love and compassion.
