Levi Homer Shank left this world on Monday, August 3, 2026, to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his late wife Mary. He was surrounded by the love of his family in the comfort of his home in West Toledo. Born Levi, and known by all as Homer, on April 2, 1930, to Forrest and Thrilba (Latta) Shank in Swanton, Ohio. He was raised in Curtice, OH and graduated from Clay High School. Right out of High School Homer started as a Carpentry Apprentice for Local 248 eventually serving as the Vice President and President. Earlier this year he was awarded his Local 248 75-year membership pin. Homer and Mary (Johnson) were married for 70-1/2 years until her death in August of 2021. Handsome Homer met pretty little Mary at Second Baptist Church in East Toledo and were married on February 11, 1951. They spent the first 2 years of their marriage in Virginia where Homer was stationed in the Army during the Korean War. During that time, they tragically lost their first son, John, shortly after his birth. A year later their daughter Kathie was born. Homer was discharged in April of 1953. Homer and Mary returned to West Toledo where they made their home and quickly filled it with four more children, Connie, Carol, Jim and Karen. After his service in the Army, Homer continued his Carpentry Career and was particularly known for his talent as a Finish Carpenter. In the late 1970's Homer and his brother Forrest started F & H Boat Storage in Curtice, Ohio which they ran with their wives for over 20 years before selling the business to enjoy retirement. Homer was a member of Second Baptist Church until it's closing and for the last 30 years, a member of Cass Road Baptist Church. He served in many church leadership roles as a Trustee and on the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Toledo Area Baptist Association for many years. Homer and Mary spent over 30 years of retirement traveling throughout the United States, and the world. They spent summers in Port Clinton enjoying camping, fishing, cookouts, fish fries, card games and board games with family and friends. He was a fan of all sports, especially NASCAR and The Ohio State Football. Homer was an avid Fisherman and was his happiest when on his boat on Lake Erie.

Homer is survived by his children, Kathie (Bill) Carlin, Connie Hertz (Hale) Kunerth, Carol (Tom) Sido, James (Brenda) Shank, Karen (John) Peacock; grandchildren: Amy, Angie, Jason, Jestin, Gabe, Bill, Adam, Gavin, Brendan, Erik, Abby, Matt, Keltin, Login, Ashley, Collin and Carly; 35 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister Patsy (Bob) Guthrie. Preceded in death by his wife Mary; parents; infant son, John Shank; brothers Gene, Dick and Forrest Shank and sister Shirley Jacobs.

The family will greet friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Rd., Millbury, Ohio, 43447, on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The family will also greet f riends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
