Obituary

Lillian "Lil" Lagger began her eternal life with God Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Lillian was born November 9, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio to Alfred and Betty Heringhauser and was the oldest of three children. She graduated from Waite High School in 1957 and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo. On March 10, 1958, she married the love of her life, Charles "Bud" Lagger. She worked as an accountant at Bohl Equipment from 1976 until her retirement in 2005. Lillian was a special woman who treated everyone with respect and took a personal interest in learning about them. She was an avid reader, participated in several book clubs, was engaged in Lourdes Lifelong Learning opportunities, and trips to Chautauqua, New York. She loved to travel both in the United States and internationally, making friends wherever she went. Lillian was a member of the Toledo Museum of Art and loved attending Toledo Symphony concerts. She also loved gardening, competing in 5K races, and the Sugar Creek Ladies Golf League. A proud resident of Oregon and the Toledo community, she was a philanthropist and dedicated community servant. As a life-long member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Toledo, Lillian served on the finance committee, member of the choir & bell choir, and taught the Bethel Series and Vacation Bible School. She served on the boards for Lutheran Social Services of Northwest Ohio and Lutheran Ministries of Mercy. She was part of a Waite Alumni group (and ladies' lunch group) and Friends of Pearson Park. Lillian was a reading and math tutor at Wynn Elementary School and former president of the Clay Band Parents Association. She served as Co-Chair for University of Toledo Art on the Mall, served on University of Toledo Alumni Board of Trustees, Chairperson of the UT Golden Alumni Society Steering Committee, and was UT's Volunteer of the Year in 2015. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Debra (Stacey) Lagger, Karen (Gene) Wright; grandchildren, Jean (Joe) Godfrey, Ian Wright, Hannah (Cam) Lagger, and Kalliyan Lagger; the extended Lagger family; sister, Gloria Thompson; and special friend, Don Saunders and his family. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; and daughter, Jennifer Jo. A Celebration of Lillian's life will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Private interment: Lake Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Lutheran Social Services, Lutheran Ministries of Mercy, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo Symphony, or the University of Toledo Alumni Association. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Phinney and nurse Mindy for their exceptional care and partnership with Lillian throughout her journey.
