Lillian Mary Noggle was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 4, 1914, to Frederick and Martha Buffington. During her early life she traveled throughout the United States, attending schools in Toledo, Northwood, Oak Harbor, Michigan, Arkansas and California. She last attended Montebello High School in Los Angeles County, California, where she was an honor student and cheerleader.
Lillian married Glenn Leslie Noggle in Toledo, Ohio on June 16, 1935. They had six children that she vigorously raised. She was well known in East Toledo for her service to Boy Scouting, The Garfield Mothers Club, Parent Teachers Association, and East Side Mothers Bowling League. For years, while serving as president of the Mother's Club and Chairman of the Garfield Carnival, she helped raise thousands of dollars for youth educational and athletic projects. In 1962, she was presented with a National Distinguished Service award from the Boy Scouts of America and in 2004, she was officially commended by Gov. Bob Taft. Lillian was also an officer in the Mothers Organization for the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority at The University of Toledo. She enjoyed music, Ballroom Dancing, Polka Dancing and public speaking. In 1966, Lillian was one of the first women to be granted a table at the once all male Toledo Newsboys Association annual banquet, where she was seated with her son, Toledo Detective, David Noggle, as her youngest son, Dale, was presented with Toledo's Outstanding Newsboy Scholarship. She was a devout Christian and member of Memorial United Church of Christ in East Toledo, and also St. John's United Church of Christ in Genoa. She had a passion for Toledo's Eastside that was unfailing and was generous in giving her time and money to a legion of charitable causes.
After the passing of her husband, Glenn in 1958, Lillian worked at Prange's Variety Store on Mott Street. She later worked as a sales rep for Sherwin Williams Paint in the Downtown Lion Store, then moved into retail sales at the Northtowne Lion Store. She retired from Lion in 1984 and enjoyed a life of travel and sharing in the lives of her family. In 1999, she moved back to Oak Harbor and was a loyal fan of Oak Harbor Athletic, Musical, and Theatrical Productions. Proud of her own achievements as an independent woman, she was most proud of the lives that came through her. Lillian's family was her most beloved treasure.
