Linda Sue (Seymour) Hansen, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away unexpectedly in her home surrounded by loved ones on December 10, at the age of 72.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; her children, Richard (Tracy) Hansen, Ron (Amy) Hansen, John (Melissa) Hansen, Elizabeth (Eric) Rice; grandchildren, Mandy Hansen, Molly (Zak) Avers, Hannah Hansen, Erek Hansen, John J. Hansen, Emma Hansen, Jeffery Zsigrai, Adam Hansen, Hattie Zsigrai, Charlotte Rice and Otelia Rice; and sister-in-law Ruth Ann Niederhauser. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Lyla (Jaquillard) Seymour; brother, Terry Seymour; and grandson Ricky Fredric Hansen.
Born on June 17, 1949 to Edwin and Lyla Seymour, Linda attended Waite High School and worked many food service jobs in her younger years, sharing many storied memories from the old "Frost Top" and Gladieux Catering. For several years she was a bus driver for Oregon City Schools, and she loved sharing stories of the kids on her route. Linda also spent time as a sale's associate at the Disney Store at the Franklin Park Mall. And while "technically" employed by Disney, Linda would be the first to admit that she essentially volunteered at the store in exchange for Disney goods and services. But her most important job, the job for which she will be impossible to replace, was being the matriarch of the Hansen family.
After meeting at a Donkey Baseball game (for the younger readers, that's a game of baseball played while riding a donkey… it's real, look it up). Linda married John P. Hansen on July 4, 1975. Together they raised four children, spoiled twelve grandchildren and were the careful stewards of the Hansen family farm. From bringing 500 chickens and a few lambs home in the back of the station wagon each spring, perfecting the art of assembly line sandwich making to delivering lunch to the fields all summer, to winters spent zipping through the fields with a sled tied behind a tractor, there has rarely been a quiet moment anywhere near the farm. Linda enjoyed all things crafty. She was always making, building, designing or (to the endless delight of anyone who walked through her kitchen) cooking something. She was a 4-H advisor when her kids were young she taught the 4-H members many of her crafting skills including cake baking and decorating, macrame and sewing. She was an avid gardener and the South-facing windows in her house have been the home of countless seed starting trays. And although Linda's greatest joys came from watching her family grow and thrive, carefully curating the best Rhubarb patch this side of the Mississippi was a very close second.
Linda was a force to be reckoned with. She had strong opinions and defended them with unparalleled stubbornness and determination. But she also laughed freely and loved fiercely. She was endlessly practical, but she always felt the magic of Disney each time she walked through Cinderella's castle. She was deeply invested in the strength and success of her community, but loved traveling and appreciating the wilder places of the country. She was a woman unlike most, and in her 72 years have left all who knew her with stories that are endless and memories that are cherished. She will be missed.
