Lino DeMaria, 82, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2003, at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital. Lino was born in Bolonga, Italy on February 16, 1921, to Giacomo and Gelsomina (Masina) DeMaria. He retired in 1980 from Doehler Jarvis where he had worked as a metal polisher for over 20 years. Lino was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church where he was also an usher. He was a member of the Alba Club, St. Joseph's Society. In his spare time Lino enjoyed going to the YMCA for swimming and exercise. Lino loved to watch his boys and his grandchildren play. Cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In his younger years Lino was enlisted in the Italian Army. While serving in the army he was taken prisoner of war in Tunisia, Africa, then sent to Camp Perry in Ohio. At a dance held at the camp, he met the love of his life, Mary Rose (D'Emilio) DeMaria, who survives. On November 16, 2003, they celebrated 56 years of marriage. Other survivors include his sons, James L. (Karen) DeMaria, DDS, Jess (Kelley) DeMaria, MD; grandchildren, Joseph, Sara, Michael, Vinny, Anthony, Janey; brothers and sisters in Italy, Divino, Linda, Iolanda, Rina, Annarosa, Ivo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vincent, and sister, Abunera.
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home in Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. and proceed to St. Ignatius Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Lino's memory are asked to consider Cardinal Stritch High School.
